This week two long-unused email accounts of mine got hijacked. Although not a crisis, this was not exactly ideal. A reminder to secure accounts with updated phone numbers and two factor authentication whenever possible. And if you’re not using an account anymore, you might want to delete it to avoid this situation. Gmail accounts can even be set to self-delete after a certain period of inactivity.
Food writer and chef Sohla El-Waylly wrote about her favorite comfort food, rice porridge, and included a recipe for caramelized onion & toasted rice porridge.
A comet with a green coma discovered last March passed close by the Earth last night. Based on its trajectory, astronomers estimate that the Green Comet originated in the Oort Cloud and that its orbit takes 50,000 years. Its previous pass would have occurred in the Stone Age.
I loved this article in Hakkai about the many different ways humpback whales use bubbles as tools.
Over the past few years it seems like mushroom foraging has come into the mainstream. Count me out. If you’ve ever wanted to know what happens if you accidentally eat various types of poisonous mushrooms, there’s a descriptive explainer in Field & Stream. A favorite line from the article: “As a rule of thumb, avoid anything with ‘skullcap’ in the name.” Cheers. (P.S. I reference one of the mushrooms on the list in my poem “Spinal Blade.”)
For AFAR, writer Roxane Gay wrote about her trip to Antarctica to see a solar eclipse for her wife’s 60th birthday. The article includes lettered photos from her wife, designer and host of the Design Matters podcast Debbie Millman.
RIP poet Linda Pastan. Here’s her poem, “postcard from cape cod.”
Thanks for reading,

My favorite advice about mushrooms has always been: "If it looks like it could be from a Mario game you DO NOT eat it!" (but that's probably just the gamer nerd in me)
Sucks that your old emails were hacked, but that's definitely a cool silver lining to be able to reconnect with an old friend.
Thanks for those amazing facts about the comet as well. I'm so bummed that I never seem to be able to catch those once-in-a-lifetime celestial events, but they're still cool to learn about.
